THE STATEMENT
Norman Jewison’s adaptation of Brian Moore’s book of the same name is a tense political thriller starring Michael Caine as Pierre Brossard, a known World War II war criminal, who has never been brought to trial and has lived a peaceful and anonymous life sheltered by the Catholic Church. Now nearly fifty years after his atrocities, the launch of a new war crimes investigation means that both the police and hitmen are after him. Though he manages to keep one step ahead of his pursuers, Brossard knows that his luck is about to run out.
Tilda Swinton plays the tenacious magistrate heading up the new investigation, who is assisted by Colonel Roux, played with gallic flair by Jeremy. They are joined by Alan Bates, Ciaran Hinds and Charlotte Rampling in this tense political thriller.
