MARTIN AND LEWIS
Jeremy made his US television debut playing Dean Martin in this movie about the often-times tumultuous but hugely successful and much-loved comedy partnership that was Martin and Lewis. It co-starred Sean Hayes (‘Will and Grace’) as Jerry Lewis.
The movie traces their unlikely beginnings as a hugely successful double act when Jerry Lewis first crashes Dean Martin’s set with a slapstick routine one night when they shared the bill at a New York nightclub in 1945. It highlights the differences between the two men, one who kept himself detached from those around him and the other constantly craving attention, and the dynamics of their relationship and how it developed into one of the most successful and popular show business partnerships of its time. It also shows how those same differences caused it to implode when they were at the height of their popular appeal.
Although Jeremy would have been more than capable of singing Dean Martin’s songs, the movie uses Martin’s own singing voice instead.
The movie has been screened on TV in both the USA and the UK but is not available on DVD. However, some copies of the movie are in circulation as it was sent out on DVD during awards season. These sometimes become available for purchase on eBay.
