HAMLET
Jeremy’s career is often credited as having been given a boost during this 1989 production of Hamlet at the National Theatre when he had to go on in the title role in place of Daniel Day Lewis.
“I hadn’t rehearsed Hamlet in months,” says Jeremy. “I’d been on stage playing Osric, who doesn’t have a lot to say, and had rushed into the dressing room to see if I could find a copy of the play when Dan’s dresser walked in with all his costumes and flung them on the bed without a word. Then I heard an announcement saying the part of Hamlet would be played by Jeremy Northam. I couldn’t get a drop of saliva to form in my mouth. It was the most horrifying night of my life.” – extract from Hello Magazine.
